PAS128 Utility Survey

Introduction: Amethyst Surveys were pleased to undertake this PAS128 Utility Survey for our client, Morgan Sindall Construction, to assist with their project at the Cambridge campus of Anglia Ruskin University. The campus, located within Cambridge’s bustling city centre, houses one of only 9 optometry schools in the UK.
The Survey:

In order to undertake a comprehensive PAS128 utility survey, an up-to-date topographical survey drawing is crucial, and we were therefore pleased to be instructed to undertake this. The topographical survey would show all features, both natural and man-made, across this busy university campus, including buildings outlines, site features, service covers and site levels.

Once we had completed the topographical survey, the drawings were shared with our utility survey team, who attended site the following week. These topographical survey drawings provided the team with a full appreciation of the different areas of the site, enabling the PAS128 utility survey to be undertaken with greater efficiency.

There are four PAS128 survey types, with Type B being the most common, and it was determined that this was the most appropriate survey type for this respective project. Type B obtains information from Type D or Type C, which is then followed by a full on-site detection survey of all underground utilities, with both Electromagnetic (EML) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) techniques and methodologies used. Once completed, we would overlay the PAS128 survey on the topographical survey drawings for clarity and ease of reference.

The Results:

Working within high-footfall areas such university campuses attracts unique challenges, and we were therefore pleased to undertake both the topographical survey and PAS128 survey with minimal disruption caused to students, professors and visitors. The survey was presented to the client in 2D DWG format and met the agreed budget and timescales.

Should you be looking to instruct either a PAS128 utility survey or topographical survey, Amethyst Surveys would be pleased to assist.
